Dogma House

Leeuwarden, The Netherlands

Inspired by the DogmA rules, a detached house was built in Zuiderburen district of Leeuwarden. The dogma is the architectural version of the Dogme manifesto of the Danish filmmaker Lars von Trier, which opposes the superficiality of Hollywood productions. The rationale of the doctrine is critical to the prevailing building events. In the Dogma 10 rules are drafted where the architect can hold on to in order to achieve essential architecture. We have made the design for this house  ​​according to these rules. The design and all detail were specially created for this house. The façade arise from the floor plans, and vice versa. The models of the house were made by hand. The drawings of the house contain nothing but architectural information. The materials were used according to their nature. The architecture of the house includes no ornamentation and no references to architectural movements. It is architecture of here and now. The house speaks for itself. The architect supervised the entire construction process.
